Armando Olveda is a multimedia artist in Portland Oregon

Armando Olveda was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico in 1967. He studied at the University of San Luis Potosí and graduated with a degree in Agriculture with a specialty in animal production. After finishing his studies, Armando traveled as a drummer in a successful Mexican rock band for over 10 years. During his travels, he was also a member of a group of independent writers and poets in Zacatecas, Mexico participating in workshops and literary cafes.

It was during this time that Armando took an interest in the works of religious photography taken by his grandfather, using them to create collages. He began creating more art, beginning with Alebrijes, calaveras and other animal figures from paper maché. Later, Armando began teaching workshops in paper maché in high schools, universities, and the Social Security Administration of Mexico. In 1998 Armando studied sculpture with a master art restorer and with a professor artist of colonial art in Querétaro, Mexico.

Since moving to the US in 1999, Armando has created hundreds of alebrijes, water colors, pastels, paintings and works in mixed media. He has displayed in art shows, galleries, and businesses in Oregon, Washington and California.
